AMMA:
Indriði - sings, electric guitar, classical guitar, wurlitzer, synth
Albert - drums, piano, electric guitar
Tumi - synths
Ingibjörg – electric bassguitar
Rising into public awareness through the overdriven might of his guitar playing with Icelandic punk-hardcore kings Muck, as a solo artist Indridi has found his songwriting developing into sparse, tactile and magical territory. This newfound aesthetic of softly woven acoustic guitar, voice, and subtle arrangements began its path on his 2016 debut Makril, and now, through ding ding, is elevated to a deeply touching new level of melancholic and delicate expression. This new album bears a similar weight of poignancy and depth as Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s at his most raw, combined with a lyrical wit and delivery much like Sun Kil Moon and a beautiful, uniquely off-balance unpredictability (sometimes we are given throat singing, sometimes Icelandic drug slang, sometimes theremin-led soundscapes).
Recorded live in various spaces in Reykjavik and Berlin with a handful of collaborators - including musicians / recordists Tumi Árnason and Albert Finnbogason, and Icelandic super-drummer Magnús Trygvason Eliassen - ding ding marks an artist with the extraordinary ability to transport himself directly into the room with the listener. Indridi sings his soft confessionals so closely that the sheer joy of music making traverses ding ding’s planes of heartache and quietitude. From opener ‘Amma’, its hushed vocals, its sparkling steelpan-mimicking... more

From opener ‘Amma’, its hushed vocals, its sparkling steelpan-mimicking... more

Upplýsingar á Bandcamp:
A lion is a big cat creature with claws and sharp teeth. Some say it is a king among animals. It has no stripes, ordinarily there is not a single stripe on a lion. It is the tiger that has the stripes. A tiger ordinarily has stripes, many many great looking stripes, that are good for hiding out. Same as the lion, the tiger has cat features, claws and big sharp teeth, that are good for fighting and hunting. The tiger is also considered among animal royalty. On the surface, this is all very menacing, still both creatures are covered in soft fur and have gooey insides.
Throughout the history of everything, people have wondered, if a lion and a tiger were ever to meet, what would happen? Certainly a terrible fight would ensue, say the wondering people. Certainly the tiger would be the victor, says one wondering person. Certainly the lion must win, says another. Certainly we can’t be sure that such a meeting would result in a fight, says yet another person. Perhaps it would result in something else entirely.
On Gleypir tígur gleypir ljón, Icelandic duo Tumi Árnason and Magnús Trygvason Eliassen return, with their second album of saxophone and drum creations. Continuing their journey through musical sounds and free improvisation, the duo presents eight new tracks, composed and recorded in the Icelandic countryside during the time of pandemic isolations.

"At the outset everything merges. Echoes from the sound sources shroud perception.
Steadily the reflections subside as we draw closer to a vital ever-changing core."
Icelandic saxophonist and composer Tumi Árnason presents high-concept sombre opus Hlýnun (Warming), a piece that addresses our current existential threat, the climate crisis, through free jazz and experimental improvisation. Accompanying Tumi are bassist Skúli Sverrisson, drummer Magnús Trygvason Eliassen and keyboardist Magnús Jóhann Ragnarsson.
Hlýnun invites the listener into a dynamic ecosystem. Four instruments orbit each other, trade ideas and create vital soundscapes. A living multiplicity that grows and flourishes, gains balance but is threatened by an ever advancing hegemony. Songs of extinct birds are unveiled through melodies and a requiem for life itself bursts out of the organ. Man’s diagrams and machinery invade the composition, rousing intensities and endangering its unity. Members are lost in the commotion, the ecosystem regresses and becomes an apocalyptic ambiance, hiss and silence.
"At the end we dissolve into dust and phantoms
amid machinery and void."

Pretty Late was recorded over one year, although the compositions on the album have a longer history. With the nostalgic feelings that follows becoming an adult, the songs have deep meaning and memories for the young composer. The material is recorded at Sundlaugin (the infamous studio built by Sigur Rós in the 2000s) and Mengi (a legendary arts and experimental venue in central Reykjavík) who are also releasing the album. The songs have evolved with a personal soundscape that surrounds his guitar playing, collaborating with musicians like Skúli Sverrisson (Ryuichi Sakamoto, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Ólöf Arnalds), Albert Finnbogason (JFDR, Sóley), and various of Brynjar’s favorite session players. The whole album was recorded in the midst of the pandemic with Brynjar often working late into the night, making the melancholy shine through the recordings.
